Final Day of Lumberjack Days!

grandparadeToday starts off with the Ecumenical Church Service – Community Pancake Breakfast held in Pioneer Park from 7:30-11:00am. After eating some tasting pancakes, head out to the Old Athletic Field and watch authentic 1860’s baseball! See how the game was meant to be played as the Washington County Historical Society presents a 1860 vintage base ball exhibition, including 3 games. The games are played by 1860 rules of base ball [two words back then] and uniforms of that era are worn. Some interesting rules include the batter [called the striker] is out if the ball is caught on the fly or first bounce; there is no sliding, no swearing, and no sweating — especially if ladies are present. The STIHL Dogs & Logs Championships is back today as well. The Ironjack Endurance Finals as well as the DockDogs Big Air competition will be held at noon with the Finals held at 2:00pm. My personal favorite of the competitions is the STIHL Dogs & Logs Relay Races where 3 dogs and 2 lumberjacks team up in head to head relays! The relay races begin at 3:30pm at the north end of Lowell Park.

Don’t forget the Lumberjack Days ’09 Grand Parade! With over 150 units, this is a fantastic parade to watch and the whole family will love it! Bystanders beware, parade watchers are known to get hit with water balloons and squirt guns!

The Lumberjack Days ‘o9 Music Spectacular Night IV begins with the Stillwater Area High School Jazz Band kicking off the award ceremonies. Awards will be given out to the winners of Joseph’s Pie Baking Contest, Cribbage Tournament, Chess Tournament, Karate and Treasure Hunt!

Lumberjack Days ’09 finishes with a bang with the band Zed Leppelin performing on the floating stage. After the band finishes, the Thunder in the Valley XIII Fireworks Finale will begin! Thunder in the Valley is one of the largest musically choreographed fireworks shows in the United States, so don’t miss out!
