The Seventh Annual Summer Tuesdays season begins tonight with a pet-lovers theme of “For the Love of Animals.” Summer Tuesdays offers seven nights of fun, family-friendly, free entertainment right alongside the St. Croix River in downtown Stillwater. The event will run every Tuesday through August 18th in Lowell Park. Each night an open-air market will be held in the park from 4:30-8:30pm, live music begins at 7:30pm, and movies will be shown at dusk.
As part of tonight’s theme, residents and visitors are invited to bring their leashed pets. In addition, Cedar Pet Clinic will host a dog bite clinic to help keep people safe around dogs this summer (Hopefully they won’t be needed tonight). A chef from the Saint Agnes Baking Company who is famous for his organic dog treats will also be on-hand in the market. River Valley Riders, a group that provides horse therapy to people with disabilities, will be there to answer questions. For the second summer, InStudio will be sponsoring a pet/owner look-a-like contest. Think you look like your favorite pooch or feline? Entrants could win the title of “Best in Show” and a free poster of them and their pet! Visit InStudio’s market booth for details!
Also in the Market this week is the Chamber Grill, featuring the River Market Community Co-op, and Valley Cooks. Nathan Utsch of The Dock Cafe is the featured Valley Cook of the evening. He will be serving Pasta from Provence – sundried tomato, fresh basil, capers and artichokes tossed with penne pasta and balsamic vinegar.
Bringing their musical talents to the Summer Tuesdays stage tonight is the band Pickin’ Up Steam. They bring traditional bluegrass into the 21st Century with their unique arrangements of bluegrass standards and original compositions with thoughtful lyrics and exciting, complex instrumentals.
“The Black Stallion” will be showing on the big screen tonight! Who can forget this classic movie starring Mickey Rooney? A young boy is saved from a shipwreck by a beautiful black stallion. After their rescue, they return to America where an ex-horse trainer (played by Mickey Rooney) teaches the boy to become a jockey and guides them to their ultimate triumph! Sponsored by Rivertown Inn and the Good Samaritan Society of Stillwater, this movie perfectly fits this weeks animal-lovers theme.
