Rivertown Inn is going green. Owners Jeff and Julie Anderson have made going green and offering organic foods and products a priority at the Inn. Gardener Shari Pope’s green thumb will help Rivertown Inn with the transition. We are extending our organic gardening from the small selection organic herbs used by Chef Ray Wyatt for cooking and garnishing our breakfasts and monthly wine dinners to a larger garden with four types of heirloom tomatoes and everything from mint, lavender, and rosemary to chives, tarragon, and curry. All of which will be organically grown right here on our property and served to our guests.

Among the four types of tomatoes will be grape tomatoes, perfect for our guests to pick and eat right off the vine. We will also have planters and urns on our patio full off herbs such as mint and lemon verbena for guests to pick and flavor the ice tea Rivertown Inn makes fresh daily to create their own signature tea. Chef Ray Wyatt is also working together with the owners and our distributors to find the freshest seasonal and organically grown ingredients available for our daily breakfast and monthly wine dinners and cooking classes.

Innkeeper Mary Dieter, with the help of housekeeper Sandy Persico, is  researching to find the best Eco friendly cleaning products to help make our rooms as luxurious as possible, while still having as little negative impact on the environment as possible.  We also offer Molton Brown bath products and amenities. Molton Brown strives to offer as many naturally derived ingredients as possible, sourced from sustainable sources around the world.

Rivertown Inn is an investment in our values, our heritage, our neighborhood and this historic community. The staff of Rivertown Inn is dedicated to preserving our history as well as providing for our future and the future of the community through their daily practices here at the Inn.

Congratulations to The Dock Cafe, voted one of the Top 25 Local Restaurant Patios by St. Paul Pioneer Press!

Memorial Day Weekend was the official start of the patio season – time to take it outside! The Dock Cafe is one of the best places in the area for scenic views of the St. Croix River and the historic lift bridge. Pride and Panorama

JeffJulieHouse

The home of Jeff and Julie Anderson, owners of Rivertown Inn, was featured in Midwest Home Magazine’s June/July 2009 issue. The Anderson’s own a lavish 1881 Victorian Queen Anne home located in Stillwater, Minnesota. The article focused on the Anderson’s vision of an outdoor project for their home that would create an open-air  living environment that went beyond the standard pool addition. They chose designer Ed Hawksford, who specializes in period homes, to help them make their dream a reality. Since 1999, Ed has provided the artistic vision that is Rivertown Inn. Their project included a raised deck that resembles a terrace in style and feel, and a series of interconnected activity areas, including a gazebo with elaborate timber framing and stained-glass windows, a wine cellar-inspired pool house, a cozy hot tub nook, fire pit, and border gardens with European statuary and flowering urns. Added to the level of difficulty was that all of these additions were to be made on a hilly plot that required extensive land-mass removal, soil testing, and zoning accommodation before construction could even begin. It was quite the obstacle course.

The result? The Anderson’s outdoor living space now complements both the house and its natural surroundings. Midwest Home’s Erin Anderson wrote that, ” It is a rustic-yet-refined nod to the quintessential English garden”. But for the Anderson, the payoff is not just in the landscaping. “It’s amazing how opening up our living area has actually brought us closer as a family,” says Julie. “This house is more than a place to live. It’s a way of living.”

Stillwater Marathon

May 18, 2009

Stillwatermarathon

The Inaugural Anytime Fitness Stillwater Marathon starts this Sunday, May 24th at 7:00am in Stillwater, Minnesota.  Come cheer on the runners as they test their endurance on Stillwater’s hills and valleys. The course has it all from sandstone cliffs to century-old farms to territorial prisons to lumber baron mansions! It is a marathon with truly scenic surroundings.  Runners can choose from running the full marathon, 20 mile, Jon Francis Half Marathon, or the 12k. The marathon is a Boston qualifier. You also have the opportunity to donate to a worthy cause. The American Cancer Society will have teams running the Stillwater Marathon. Over the years, more than 4,000 athletes have helped raise over $5.2 million through Charity Runner by running in marathons like the Stillwater Marathon. I highly recommend donating and cheering the teams as they run for those who have been touched by cancer. You can find more information, visit www.charityrunner.org.

I also recommend checking out the Stillwater Marathon website at www.stillwatermarathon.com to see the race map. Even if you are just planning on driving through or around the Stillwater area that day, take a look at the race map as traffic may back up on Hwy 95 and many side streets in Stillwater and Bayport will have runners on them. It can be a difficult day to get through town!
